By choosing one of the four drive modes offered by the multi-information switch on the steering wheel, this revolutionary system lets you obtain the optimum traction you need to handle slippery surfaces like mud/sand and loose rock, or non-slippery surfaces like mogul and rock. So even if you're not an experienced off-road driver, you can enjoy secure, sure-footed control when traveling over rough terrain. On models without Multi-terrain Select, Active Traction Control helps maintain vehicle stability by controlling power delivery and braking for each wheel independently.
Multi-terrain ABS operates in synch with Multi-terrain Select, automatically regulating ABS operation to suit off-road driving conditions such as mud and sand. With normal ABS activated in on-road driving, EBD helps provide balanced braking regardless of the occupant/cargo load.
Four cameras, mounted on the front, rear, and sides of the vehicle, enable the Multi-terrain Monitor to display six different views of the terrain outside. The system supports you by enabling you to see the surrounding conditions even when cresting a hill or driving on extremely uneven ground that makes it difficult to see the terrain directly. Switching between the various views is easily effected via the multi-information switch. On the forward view, on-screen indicators show the current direction of travel.
The multi-information display also shows the vehicle's wheel angle in real time, enabling visual confirmation of steering direction to help you stay on track and out of trouble — even when travelling over rough countryside that makes it easy to lose sight of surrounding conditions and where you're headed.
Crawl Control provides optimal throttle and brake control, maintaining a constant low speed to support safe, sure driving on sand, dirt, rock, snow, mud, steep grades, or other surfaces that require fine accelerator control. Five speeds are offered, with fully automatic throttle and brake control that frees you to concentrate on steering the vehicle. On models without Crawl Control, Hill-start Assist Control and Downhill Assist Control fully support Prado’s driving performance.
By automatically regulating the throttle and brake, Crawl Control allows you to focus your attention on steering, thereby reducing driver stress.
